One-off purchase on the App Store, no subscription; the price depends on the country and is not shown on the vendor's site.

The painting engine (pen pressure, brushes, on-screen fluidity) is the product, and that is precisely what a custom build does not reproduce. There is nothing here to replace with a business application. Procreate is a one-off purchase with no subscription: the question is rather whether free software suits your use.
