Menutech

Partly replaceableOur view: worth studying depending on your use.price not publishedcasevibecode verdict · 0 votesPage updated on October 23, 2026 · Published by North Studio

Online menu and bill-of-fare design software: menu creation, custom styles, digital menus, printing or sharing, dish ideas and menu analysis by AI, translations. Options: recipes and recipe cards (nutrition values, margins, ingredients), product management, multi-site, order taking, diet management and purchasing, integrations (website, intranet, social networks). Plans Mini, Maxi, S, M, L depending on the number of menus per month, and Gastronomy, Patients (hospitals) and Seniors (care homes) offers on quote. The page shows two amounts per plan without naming the currency: prices not recorded. Six currencies offered.

Generating a laid-out menu from a list of dishes, with allergens shown and a web page to share, is a realistic project, especially for a venue with only a few menus. What matters is accuracy: an allergen mistake engages the venue's responsibility, so the software must deduce allergens from ingredients and alert when a product changes. For a collective kitchen or several sites, diet and purchasing management come in and the tool becomes harder to match.

What you lose

  • Ready-made layout styles.
  • Deduction of allergens and nutrition values.
  • Translations and AI menu analysis.
  • Multi-site and diet management (Patients and Seniors plans).

Existing alternatives to Menutech

No free or open-source alternative currently meets our checks (active project under a free licence, free plan read on the vendor’s own site). Rather than invent one, the list stays empty.

What a home-built tool costs once it exists

  • Hosting and database: a server cost, and automatic backups you actually test.
  • Security and GDPR: dependency updates, an HTTPS certificate, protection of your customers’ data.
  • Upkeep time: who fixes the tool on a Saturday night in the middle of service if the server goes down?

The prompt to build it yourself

Build a menu generator for my restaurant, replacing a menu design software.

Context: a restaurant with a 25-dish menu that changes every week, in French and English.

To do:
- A dish database with name, description, VAT-inclusive price, category, ingredients and allergens (the 14 regulatory ones) deduced from the ingredients.
- A phone-friendly web menu with an allergen filter, reachable through a QR code.
- A printable A4 version laid out by category with allergen icons.
- A French and English translation entered by me, never machine-translated for allergens.
- A «sold out» status and a history of published menus.

Out of scope: AI dish ideas, nutrition values, multi-site.

Stack: Next.js, SQLite. README: how to run, backup, and a reminder that allergens must be rechecked each time a recipe changes.
