Google Drive
Not replaceablefree (paid plans from €1.99/month)editor verdict · 0 votes
Online file storage with sync apps, sharing links and the built-in Google Docs suite.
A personal file repository with folders, search and sharing links can be set up in an afternoon. What cannot be reproduced: replicated storage that has never lost a byte, sync that survives sleep mode and two devices editing the same folder, apps on every platform. And half the value is not the storage: all your contacts have a Google account and Docs opens with one click. At two euros a month, there is no saving.
What you lose
- Sync clients for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, with offline files.
- Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, with live collaborative editing.
- Durability and availability that can't be matched, with reliable versions and trash.
- Sharing with people who already have a Google account, with detailed permissions.
- Search in PDFs and images, and the mobile scanner.
