Formbricks
Survey and customer feedback platform, with open code and a self-hosting option: link and in-app surveys, all question types, conditional logic, hidden fields, partial responses, full API. Cloud hosted in Frankfurt: free Hobby (250 responses a month, 1 workspace), Pro at $74 a month (2,000 responses, 3 workspaces), Scale at $325 (5,000 responses, 5 workspaces), two months free when billed annually. The repository is under a mixed licence (open core, some enterprise features under a commercial licence). Prices shown in dollars.
A questionnaire with a few question types, conditional logic, response storage and a CSV export can be built in a weekend, and that is enough for a restaurateur or freelancer who wants to collect feedback after a visit. Formbricks mainly adds integration into a software product (a survey that appears in an app based on behaviour), segmentation and integrations. If you survey customers through a link or a QR code, an in-house tool fits. For feedback analysis at large scale, the tool makes sense.
What you lose
- Surveys shown inside an app based on user behaviour.
- Segmentation of respondents by attributes.
- Integrations and webhooks.
- AI-assisted translations.
Existing alternatives to Formbricks
- LimeSurveyOpen source
Open-source survey platform since 2003 (GPL), with conditional branching, quotas and statistics, translated into French.
What a home-built tool costs once it exists
- Hosting and database: a server cost, and automatic backups you actually test.
- Security and GDPR: dependency updates, an HTTPS certificate, protection of your customers’ data.
- Upkeep time: who fixes the tool on a Saturday night in the middle of service if the server goes down?
The prompt to build it yourself
Build a small satisfaction questionnaire tool for my business, replacing a survey subscription. Context: a restaurant that hands out a QR code with the bill; about 100 responses a month. To do: - A questionnaire editor with question types: score from 1 to 10, single choice, multiple choice, free text. - Simple conditional logic (show a question if the score is below 7). - A light public page, adapted to phones, in French and English. - Storage of responses with no mandatory personal data, and an optional email field with consent. - A results table: average per question, trend per week, free-text answers sorted from lowest to highest score. - A CSV export and an email alert for any score below 6. Out of scope: in-app surveys, segmentation. Stack: Next.js, SQLite. No made-up response: only real responses are shown. README: how to run, backup, deleting a response on request (GDPR).
