Zoom Workplace Pro
Video meetings and workspace; the Pro plan is Zoom's first paid plan.
For meetings with a few people, a self-hosted Jitsi instance does the job, and you keep your data at home. But Zoom is above all a worldwide network that keeps good picture quality even when connections are poor, plus recording, transcription, call numbers and integrations. That is what drives the price, and what cannot be reproduced alone. A good deal for internal calls, a bad one for clients or webinars.
What you lose
- A worldwide network that stays smooth even on poor connections.
- Call numbers and telephony.
- Large webinars.
- Cloud recording and transcription.
- Integrations with calendars and business tools, and support.
Existing alternatives to Zoom Workplace Pro
- Jitsi MeetOpen source
Open-source video conferencing: you share a room link and meet, without Zoom's business features.
- MiroTalk SFUOpen source
WebRTC room deployable as a Docker stack, with waiting room, whiteboard and recording; AGPL licence.
- Nextcloud TalkOpen source
Calls and chat built into Nextcloud; heavier calls need a TURN server and some network work.
