UptimeRobot

Replaceablefree (paid plans from €9/month)editor verdict · 0 votes

Website and service availability monitoring with alerts. Free plan with 50 monitors checked every 5 minutes; the Solo plan costs €9 a month billed annually (€10 monthly) for checks every minute.

Uptime Kuma, free software, does the same job: checks every minute or less, alerts by email, Telegram or other channels, and a public status page. The one thing to keep in mind: a monitor hosted on the same server as the site it watches goes down with it. Run it on a different machine, a small separate VPS or a home server, and the replacement is complete for a few euros.

What you lose

  • Monitoring from outside your own infrastructure
  • Nothing to host or update
  • Checks from several locations around the world

The prompt to build it yourself

Set up self-hosted availability monitoring to replace UptimeRobot.

Do not build a tool: deploy Uptime Kuma.

To do:
- A docker-compose.yml with Uptime Kuma, volume in ./data, automatic restart.
- Caddy in front, automatic HTTPS on a domain that I will give you, with authentication enabled.
- The monitors for the sites and services that I list, with checks every 60 seconds.
- Alert notifications by email or Telegram that I choose, with a test alert.
- A public status page if I ask for one.
- A backup of the data volume, copied off the server.

Out of scope: multi-region checks.

README: launch, adding a monitor, update, and a reminder that this must run on a different machine than the sites it watches.
