PlaceYourGuest
Online tool to create and optimise seating plans for restaurants and events.
A seating-plan generator is one of the simplest tools in the catalogue: no payment, no real-time sync, no certification. The only slightly technical piece is automatic placement based on affinities between guests, but a simple algorithm already gives a good result. Think about protecting guest names: better to keep the data on your own device.
What you lose
- A placement algorithm optimised on large lists.
- Sharing the plan online with organisers.
- Floor plan templates.
- The vendor's assistance.
- Print-ready laid-out exports.

The prompt to build it yourself
Build me a seating-plan tool for my group bookings and events. Stack: local web app in Next.js (or Vite + React), no server database; plans are saved in the browser (IndexedDB) and exportable as JSON. To do: - An editable floor plan: round and rectangular tables, capacity per table, drag and drop, rotation, numbers. - A guest list: manual entry or CSV import (name, group, diet or allergy, constraints). - Simple constraints: “next to”, “not next to”, “table reserved for a group”. - Automatic placement that proposes a distribution respecting the constraints (a greedy algorithm with improvement by swaps is enough), then manual adjustment by drag and drop. Unresolved conflicts show in red. - Export to PDF and PNG, with the list of guests per table and their allergies highlighted for the kitchen. - Guest names stay on the device: nothing sent to a server, no telemetry. Out of scope: accounts, online sharing, payment, mobile app. README: run locally, import a CSV, export a plan.
