Jotform plays in another category: a huge widget catalogue, built-in payments, PDF generation, approval workflows and compliance options. If you only use fields and emails, replaceable. If you take payments or get things signed, keep it.

The prompt to build it yourself
Build me a personal form builder to replace Jotform. Stack: Node, Express, better-sqlite3. Two surfaces: an administration reachable on localhost only, and public pages /f/<slug> for anyone with the link. To do: - Forms are stored as JSON in SQLite. Fields: text, email, long text, choice, checkbox, date and file upload (uploads/ folder, 10 MB maximum). - Server-side validation of required fields and email format, thank-you message per form, honeypot field and per-IP rate limit. - Each submission is recorded with the timestamp and the form version. On the admin side: a table per form with CSV export. - A plain-text summary email for each response (SMTP in .env). - Only the public pages are exposed; no accounts, no telemetry. Out of scope: payments, PDF generation, approval workflows, widget catalogue. README: placing the public part behind a reverse proxy, location of uploaded files.
