Partly replaceableOur view: worth studying depending on your use.from €70.39/month (converted from $79, billed annually, rate of Oct 2, 2026)casevibecode verdict · 0 votesPage updated on October 23, 2026 · Published by North Studio

Food safety software: a guided HACCP plan (from the Standard plan), preconfigured monitoring tasks, more than 200 free templates (posters, checklists, logs), temperature readings and connectable sensors. The pricing page is in English with no mention of French; plans from $99 to $299 per month per site billed monthly ($79 to $250 billed annually).

Dated checklists (temperatures, cleaning, goods receipt) can be coded quickly, and that is most of the daily work. The tool also provides a guided HACCP plan, which you must be able to justify in front of an inspector: the document is yours, the software does not make you compliant. Temperature sensors are hardware to buy and connect. Keep an exportable, time-stamped history: it is the proof you will be asked for.

What you lose

  • The step-by-step guided HACCP plan.
  • More than 200 templates for logs, posters and checklists.
  • Connectable temperature sensors.
  • Reports ready for an inspection.

Existing alternatives to FoodDocs

No free or open-source alternative currently meets our checks (active project under a free licence, free plan read on the vendor’s own site). Rather than invent one, the list stays empty.

What a home-built tool costs once it exists

  • Hosting and database: a server cost, and automatic backups you actually test.
  • Security and GDPR: dependency updates, an HTTPS certificate, protection of your customers’ data.
  • Upkeep time: who fixes the tool on a Saturday night in the middle of service if the server goes down?

The prompt to build it yourself

Build a small digital hygiene log for my kitchen, replacing HACCP tracking software.

Context: a 40-seat restaurant; a cook enters the readings on a tablet.

To do:
- Daily checklists that I define in a file (opening, closing, goods receipt, cleaning).
- Temperature readings (fridges, freezers, hot dishes) with value, time, operator name and an alert threshold per appliance.
- A visible alert when a temperature is out of range, with a mandatory «corrective action» field.
- Optional photos for goods receipt (label, use-by date).
- A time-stamped PDF export per day and per month, locked once the day is closed.

Out of scope: writing the HACCP plan itself (to be done with a professional), automatic sensors.

Stack: offline-capable web app (PWA) with local storage and sync, SQLite on the server. README: backup, how long to keep the logs, and a reminder that the software does not replace the manager's responsibility.
