Clover
Fiserv's ecosystem of tills and payment terminals: several terminals (Go, Mini, Station Duo), software for restaurants and shops, an app marketplace. Published plans and prices vary greatly between sources and restaurant offers are often quote-based. In Europe, Fiserv announces a rollout in Germany; no confirmed French offer.
Clover combines till software, a terminal and a payment acquirer that belong to the same group. The ordering software can largely be reproduced; the terminal and bank acquiring cannot, because they require approved hardware and a payment institution. In France there is also the NF525 certification requirement for software that records sales. If you want a till, compare certified vendors; if you have ideas for extras (menu, loyalty), they can be built separately.
What you lose
- The approved payment terminal and the group's bank acquiring.
- Tax certification of the till (NF525 in France).
- The app marketplace and integrations.
- Hardware support and maintenance.
Existing alternatives to Clover
No free or open-source alternative currently meets our checks (active project under a free licence, free plan read on the vendor’s own site). Rather than invent one, the list stays empty.
The vote is on the verdict (could a home-built tool replace this till?), not a recommendation: in France, a till must be NF525- or LNE-certified.
